   STEAMED  RICE  VATTAYAPPAM        



                                                                              Vattayappam,one of the famous recipe item in Kerala . Here we can see the tasty food recipe about vattayappam . lt 's  almost keralians eat as their evening snack with Tea.   
                                                                         
  The tasty vattayappam is always a favorite among malayalees.This steamed rice cake is a popular snack item and More the softer, the more it melts in your mouth .

                   ingredients
  • Raw rice-1cup
  • Grated coconut-1/2 cup
  • Cooked Boiled rice - 1/4 cup                     
  • Sugar-1 1/4 tbsp
  • Cardamom - 1 pod
  • Water - 3/4 cup
  • Salt - to taste
  • Yeast - 1/4 tsp 
  • Coconut oil - to smear the vesse                                                                                                               method

Soak raw rice for three to four hours.

Grind the raw rice along with cooked rice,grated coconut sugar and cardamom.The ground mixture should be slightly grainy.Add yeast and pulse it for four seconds,and switch off the mixie. Add some salt to the batter for taste.

Let the batter till it rises.

Heat a steamer with water.When the water starts boiling,reduce the flame.Smear a steel round vessel with oil ,pour the batter and place it in the steamer.Close the steamer and cook it for 12 to 15 minutes.

Remove the vessel from the steamer and place it in a wide vessel with cold water, when it cool inverted to a plate.Cut into pieces and serve with any vegetarian or non vegetarian masala curry.



Tips

  • The time taken for the batter to rise depends on the climate,it will rise easily in humid climate
  • Make sure to you use fresh stock of yeast
  • If you like the vattayappam to  be sweet  increase the quantity of suger.
